Cellular vs. Satellite Tracking Options
Vehicle tracking systems function differently depending on a fleet’s regular operations – whether a vehicle travels into remote areas or sticks to urban streets, for example. At Track Your Truck, we equip your vehicles with devices that suit your company’s specific needs. Our options include cellular and satellite tracking, or we provide hybrid plans with both options. Cellular vehicle tracking is highly effective in urban areas in which cellular network coverage is not an issue. If you select this option, we will first help you determine which carrier provides the most reliable and uninterrupted service – AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile, for example. Our cellular tracking devices are listed below:
- The Coyote ST – This device provides real-time tracking and reporting of location, speed and direction. Updates occur every two minute.
- The Coyote RT – This device offers updates every 30 seconds. In addition to location, speed and direction, this system alerts you to excessive acceleration. It includes a “Starter Kill” system that only allows vehicles to operate based on a pre-determined schedule.
- The Coyote AT – This device adds ultimate tamper-proof capability to the Coyote ST functionality with an integrated, rechargeable battery that tracks when main power has been disconnected.
- The SkyHawk TT – This system is called “passive cellular,” meaning it provides real-time tracking when tethered to a power source, and standard two-minute GPS updates are available. The integrated, rechargeable battery provides less-than real-time updates when not tethered.
- The SkyHawk TT-S – The benefit of this passive cellular device is that it requires no power other than its own seven-year battery. It provides one update per day, with optional updates periods to as many as six per day.
Satellite vehicle tracking systems are widely used by fleets that travel in and out of cellular network ranges. Our two satellite tracking systems are listed below:
- The SkyRunner – This system monitors location, speed and direction, with 10-minute GPS tracking updates. This device is highly durable in tough driving conditions.
- The SkyHawk II – This device provides standard updates twice daily with up to six per day available. Its self-contained battery lasts up to seven years.
